One of Affinity Strategies’ newest clients is the American Board of Medical Quality (ABMQ). This is a unique group across our client base in that their main focus is certification rather than membership. Their goal is to support and promote professionally recognized and relevant credentials for physicians in the specialty of Medical Quality Management.
Medical Quality Management can be defined as managing the process of patient care to reduce errors and improve overall care. As Andrew Majka and Prathibha Varkey state in Medical Quality Management “The clear ethical imperative to enhance the quality and safety of health care and meet external accreditation requirements and patient expectations calls providers to address quality of care issues.”
The role of ABMQ incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1998, is to establish examination, certification, and evaluation procedures for professionals and programs that present evidence of expertise, experience, and training in the field of Medical Quality Management. The core curriculum, as continually defined and developed by professional organizations such as the American College of Medical Quality (ACMQ) is, and will continue to be, the foundation and source material for (a) the development of examinations that can lead to the certification of individuals as specialists in Medical Quality Management, and (b) the evaluation of quality improvement programs. Data and information resulting from these activities will feed back into the continuous review and update of the core body of knowledge.
ABMQ helps ensure physicians, nurses, and other medical quality leaders are learn and are tested in key areas of medical quality through their Certified in Medical Quality (CMQ) certification. To date, more than 500 individual candidates have been granted their CMQ (Certified in Medical Quality) designation by ABMQ, based on their credentials, experience, and exam performance.
